  • 15 g of marijuana.
  • 3 cloves of garlic.
  • 50 g pine nuts (another nut can be substituted)

  • 70 g pecorino cheese (mixed cheese or cured sheep’s cheese can be substituted)
  • 100 ml of extra virgin olive oil.
  • Salt and pepper to taste.

The 5 steps

With the ingredients ready we can proceed to prepare marijuana-based pesto. In case you do not have marijuana, you can use hemp seeds and CBD oil to replace the grass.

Preparing the oil

The first step to prepare this delicious recipe will be to make our own cannabis oil. You can skip this step if you already have it at home. In this step we will need the 15 g of marijuana and 100 ml of olive oil.

We pour the oil together with the marijuana in a metallic pot, to take it to the bain-marie. We introduce the small pot, in a bigger pot with water, you must make sure that no water splashes inside the oil.

With the help of a thermometer we check the temperature, which should not exceed 125 °C, so as not to denature the components of the herb.  The ideal is to cook for 30 to 40 minutes at a constant temperature of 120 °C.

In this way we will facilitate that the cannabinoids and the properties of the marijuana pass to the oil, besides that we carry out the decarboxylation, process by means of which the THC becomes activated. Then we strain and let it cool.

Bleaching of leaves

The next step is to blanch the basil leaves. We will put a pot with water on the fire and enlist another one with cold water and ice. When the water in the first pot starts to boil, add the basil leaves and leave them for 30 seconds. Take them out and quickly transfer them to cold water to stop the cooking.

Once the basil leaves are dry, chop them and process them in a food processor until a paste is formed.

Separately we crush the garlic with the salt and pepper, then we will include the pine nuts and proceed to crush until we obtain a paste. You can also use the food processor for this step.

In the food processor or blender we will mix the two mixtures until we obtain a homogeneous paste. Then we will add the cheeses so that they are well integrated to the preparation.

With the food processor on, add the cannabis oil in a trickle, slowly until the sauce takes consistency. Gradually to take the point, once finished, we will test it to see if it is well salted.

Recommended doses

We must remember that the psychoactive effects of marijuana tend to appear later and last longer when it is consumed as a food than when it is smoked or vaporized.

Therefore, we recommend starting with small doses of 5 g, so that we can cautiously evaluate the dose response. We can increase it until we find the correct dose, but do not exceed 15 g as a recommendation.

However, there is no established dosage for pesto sauce, but rather a recommendation according to the individual’s tolerance.

This is the right way to make marijuana pesto in just 5 steps, you can eat it as a pasta sauce, spread on bread, make pizzas and any application you can think of.  Marijuana brings out the flavors of basil and intensifies its perfume, so you will love making this recipe, plus it gives you essential amino acids, vitamins and antioxidants.
